    Hi,

I am having a problem getting an external matte to load. I have a simple composite, with a background plate, a foreground plate, and a matte rendered as pro res HQ. Its a simple shape that moves across the screen, keying in an element of the foreground plate. Am I correct to assume that I can do this in Resolve? I’ve read and reread the manual section on external mattes, and it seems I should be able to do this, and be able to grade both video layers and do the composite in Resolve, rather than it being done in AE.
I follow the directions, and highlight the foreground clip in the media pool, then select the matte and select “add as matte” . Nothing happens. the matte is not loaded.
Is there a spec on the format of the matte? Mine is Pro Res, 1920×1080, same size and codec of the rest of the piece.

    any help appreciated!

Check that the durations of the clip and matte are exactly the same.
