    Hi,
I’m getting ready to begin a new project and need to add a new external hard drive to my G5-Quad system.

I already have two S-ATA drives mounted in my computer’s bay. Originally, I had thought to go with G-Tech’s G-SATA external drive system, but due to PCI-E card problems and the G-SATA, I’m rethinking that option. There is a G-DRIVE-Q, made by G-Tech, although I’ve not found any worthy reviews of that drive.

The film I’ll be capturing to the external drive is Fuji Hi8, shot with a Canon L2 camera.

I’d like to keep my HD purchase price to $550 or less.

I thank you in advance for any input,

    Jon

A good FW800 drive. 500G can be had for around $300

    Thanks Scott,
Can you recommend a 500G, FW800, external hard drive (model – manufacturer) that has a solid reputation in the FCP arena?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jon

G-RAID 500, LaCie Big Disk Extreme 500, WiebeTech all have solid reputations. I reviewed both the G-RAID and LaCie in the Features section of the Cow.

    Thank you Walter,
I do appreciate your input and have read the two reviews, G-RAID 500, LaCie Big Disk Extreme 500, and gone to WiebeTech

I second all of Walters suggestions. I’ve been running Lacie 500G Big Disk Extremes for over a year and not a single problem.
