External Drive Recommend
I’m a Director/DP who specializes in Food and Liquid commercials. I just got started with FCP and I’m working off a MacBook Pro 15″ 2.16Ghz, 2GB of Ram. I’m looking for a 100+GB, light, fast, small ( I travel alot) External drive for my media. If anyone has suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thx, T.

Thanks Shane. Have you had any experience with that drive? What do you think of the LaCie Rugged or Little Big Disk? Or for that matter, LaCie in general? Thx, T

Never owned a Lacie…but I have 2 G-Raids and a G-Drive Q. I really want the G-Raid Mini, but can’t justify the cost yet. Lots of good experience with the G-Tech stuff though.

Just to echo Shane’s response, if you want the best for portability, size and performance- then the G-Tech mini is the best. I have two of them and cut entire shows from my laptop with them. I have the 7200rpm so it keeps up just great, AND you DON’T need power for it!!!!!
We also have a couple of G-Raids, they are more expensive than the Lacie, but for performance/reliability we like G-tech. Plus are lighter than the Lacies. The only down side is the mini’s are a little small in storage. under 100gbs. The G-Drive would be the next size up, but I haven’t used those. The G-Raid is a little bigger than the Lacie’s standard line-the ‘extreme’ line is bigger.
That being said: We own over 100 Lacie FW drives (no I’m not kidding) That we use. I’ve had very little problems with any of them. If you take care of your drive, it will take care of you.So it depends on how much you need to edit on them, if you are ‘onlining’ somewhere else, and how portable you need to be in the field.
