    Hi Folks,

I’m starting on a series next month and I’ll be using my Mac Studio for the first time. Does anyone have any suggestions or advise in terms of getting an economically priced and good quality external drive for the footage? I figure one TB is good but maybe I should get two to be on the safe side.

    Any advise is appreciated!

Mac Studio M1 with 32 gigs of ram. I cut with 3 monitors: one for bins, one for Composer and one in Full-Screen mode. (I don’t use a TV Client monitor)
    Monterey 12.5.1

    Hey Trevor,

1TB, even 2TB, sounds like small amount of storage for a series.
    Are you off-line, or on-line?
And, what is the file format? (HD/2K/4K)

Samsung T9 is nice and fast, but not thunderbolt (1TB/2TB/4TB options)

You could also look at a 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD, which will need an enclosure.

Going further up the chain you can get Thunderbolt SSD drive stacks, or even enterprise storage.

But question is going to take you back to the original point about the “size” of your source files?
And, maybe consider how they’ll be backed up?

Ok Mads. Once more, a really great answer. I’m going to speak to the Assistant Editor on the show and see what kind of storage they needed last season. Then if it’s not too much of a bother for you I’ll pick your brain again.

    Thanks so much! 🙂
