Does anyone else use Lacie storage drives to store or backup media? I’m using a 500 gig Lacie and I’m pretty sure it crashed, but I don’t know, this has never happened to me. When I power the drive up, with my g4 running, the drive does not show up. When I power it up, let it sit and go idle, then turn on my g4, the drive powers up, but still does not show up on my desktop. Has anyone experienced this? Could you at least point me to a forum that could help me out a little more. Any help is appreciated, I need to get media off of this drive for a client, thank you.

It COULD be the CASE’S ELECTRONICS have gone bad and not the Drive itself (it has happened to me).

If you can mount the drive in another case (on internally) you can see if the drive is still operating.

    Hi,

I had a 500 Gig Lacie drive die on me. It behaved much like you describe… it would power up, but would not show up on the desktop. This happened over time. At first it would sometimes be difficult to get it to show up on the desktop then it grew worse and worse until it wouldn’t show up at all.

We ended up using Data Rescue which successfully pulled all but one or two DVCam file off the drive.

Apparently what had happened was one of the drives in the system had failed. We managed to get the material off of it just before it completely died. The drive was still under warrenty and Lacie repaired it quickly and it works well to this day.

If the drive is completely dead, you may not be able to get the data off, but I was quite happy with what Data Rescue did for us.

If you’ve got Data Rescue or some other data retrieval software, this might help.

    Good luck,

    Lars

Thanks for your help. Do you know why that happened to your drive? I can’t figure out why this would have happened to mine.

    Hi,

Lacie never said what was actually wrong, although I’m pretty sure the failure was isolated to only one of the drives in the unit.
