    Does an easy scenario exist (guessing not) where you can buy a blazing, 4K-crushing graphics card and use it externally with your MacBook Pro for FCPX?

    I get through projects using proxies, but… the whole process still feels laggy. I have an older MBP; there might not be an answer, short of buying a new MBP.

    There is a solution in beta testing right now, but it may not work with your machine as it may require thunderbolt 3. Go to eGPU.com and look at the options there.
