  • Extended Desktop with Extreme 3D card? What about Decklink Studio?

We’re looking into getting a new MacPro (one of the 12-core or 6-core 2010 releases). With our old 2008 MacPro with Decklink Extreme HD 2 card, we could use an HDTV as a 3rd monitor using Extended Desktop when it was not playing video from FCP or AE. My boss is pretty insistent that he can continue to do this.

I just wanted to confirm that with the Blackmagic HD Extreme 3D card, the Extended Desktop feature is back, and my boss can continue to enjoy his HDTV as a third desktop monitor. What about the Decklink Studio? I ask because the Extreme is a bit overkill for us (no 3D or 2K workflows).

    Hi Keith,

The DeckLink Studio doesn’t have hardware capable of outputting an Extended Desktop. Of the current lineup of PCIe devices only the Decklink HD Extreme 3D, Multibridge Pro and Eclipse, support this.

I should also mention for the benefit of others that this feature is only available on Mac OSX.

Will the new Decklink 4k card support this?
