  • Extend effect (e.g. scatterize) beyond layer boundary

Getting back into AE after many years off. Can’t remember/find via search how to tell an effect to ignore the layer size/boundary.

E.G. want to “blow up” a logo via CC Scatterize, but the effect is cropped into a square by edge of the logo layer, which is smaller than my comp.

So it looks great, until it reaches the raster border of the layer, then the effect is cropped. Suggestions for where to look or best search term?

you’re looking for the grow bounds effect. just add it above the scatterize effect in the effect order, then adjust the pixels property to extend the edges.

just fyi, other effects that do the same, rgs grow bounds (red giant’s version) which works in some cases where grow bounds doesn’t; cc repetile can also do it, and it gives control to expand up, down, right or left independently, just make sure to set tiling to ‘none’.

if all else fails, precomping the logo (choose to leave attributes and open new comp), then setting that new comp’s frame size to the same size of then original comp should work too.
