  • expression / pick-whip to HSL effect?

    Hi there, guys.

Would like to have an expression or single slider control Hue/Saturation Effect for Master hue values across a whole array of pre-comps. (An adjustment layer solution won’t do since there are 2 sets of colours I need to control and its a complex 2.5D composite).

I don’t see any way to link the Hue/Saturation Effect, but can do it with Colour Balance (HLS). Any ideas why?

    Thanks!

The Hue/Saturation effect has been around for a long time. Unfortunately, for whatever reason (I have no idea), when it was designed they didn’t make any of the properties (except those available when you check Colorize) keyframable. If you can’t keyframe it, you can’t apply an expression to it.

To all those who come across this post in the future, I did some digging and found a solution. The “hue” property value of the hue/saturation effect is included in the “”channel range” property.

So, if you want to animate or pickwhip the hue, you can just use the colour range property (with the “channel control” dropdown set to master). Any changes to the hue value will be reflected when animating or parenting this property.
