Exporting to Tape; audio issue
Hey. When I try to print to tape, it works, but the audio is always lower than what it is on the timeline. For example, I always have the audio on my timeline around -12db. When I print to tape, I set bars and tone to -12db and then proceed with the export. The bars and tone come out at -12db, but then the timeline comes out around -18db, sometimes lower. If I go back and raise the timeline +6db and export again, it still comes back at -18db. What’s the deal?

what are you laying the file off too? -18/-20db is pretty typical 0vu ref. is it your peaks or program levels? and i must ask is there a built in limiter on the deck..

yea, i heard before that -20 to -18db is 0 too. but then i also heard that -12 to -8 is. my school is inconsistent sometimes. I’m exporting to miniDV. I don’t think there’s a limiter on the deck. I’m sure I would know if it was there. And my peaks go to -12db, but generally audio hangs out around -18db. And, if audio should be around -20 to -18db, should I just let it go and reduce my bars and tone to -18db or something?
