Exporting to quicktime
Hi long time leecher first time poster:
I have exported a FCP sequence to a self contained quicktime using current settings. I have then imported that file into AE on windows and done some magic bullet looks suite work to it.
The footage is PAL DVCAM, i would like to know what export settings i should use to get the footage back at the same quality into my FCP timeline. I have used the h.264 compression setting to export from AE and noticed the file with the effected footage was smaller in size than the original file which worried me.
The export i have done also seems to jump or miss frames occasionally. Im not sure if this is because im using the quicktime player and whether it will sort it self out when dropped into the FCP time line. I cant check in FCP until im at uni again tomorrow.
Also what is the prepare for internet streaming checkbox for? i am assuming my choice not to tick it was correct?

It depends on your final delivery format. First of all, though, you don’t export from AE, you render. I would use the Animation codec, highest quality. That will keep any text or effects at their maximum quality, and would be the best option to prepare for conversion to other formats using Compressor. H.264 is generally for mobile devices and not suitable for DVD or going back to tape. If you are going back to tape you could render to your exact tape specifications. If you want web video, you should still render with Animation, then use Compressor or Flash Encoder to compress down. In any case, Animation will give you a full rez, uncompressed master.

Thanks for your time Joey, ive started a render to the animation codec. The delivery will be to DVCAM tape from FCP. So am i right in thinking the DVCAM PRO codec would be acceptable for me to use but the animation codec will give the least compressed file?
How large is the file with the animation codec going to be once rendered? If you have a ballpark estimate, it would be useful i am limited to the size of file i can transport to uni.
The film is 7 minutes long the original quicktime was 1.4 gig. The h.264 became a 500 mb file.

Ive got a similar problem. I usually bring in taga in and out of different applications with my animations. But to get them to a sequence in FCP seems a problem. they come in as simgle images. so out again????? how clean IS this animation codec to convert to QT, and bring that in instead? As good as tagas?
Is this the best way to get to a sequence stage?
