We have 6 video systems with the PD-170 camera, One Beyond laptop and Adobe CS4 Production Premium. The following problem exists on all 6 systems.

We are able to capture video from the PD-170 camera into Adobe Premier Pro via the firewire cable and edit the video in Premier Pro. The issue arises when we attempt to export the finished product back out to tape for archive and upload to satellite.

When the export function is selected, the PD-170 rolls tape and the record light comes on the lcd viewfinder. However, when the export is finished, the tape has no video on it. There is no timecode, no black, no audio, nothing.

We have selected the following options:

    Sequence–>
    Sequence Settings–>
    Playback Settings–>
    External Device–> DV: 29.97 720 x 480i

    Also Export–>DV: 29.97 720 x 480i

We also have 3 DVES systems. On these systems, with the previous options selected, we can successfully export to tape on the Sony deck, but not to the Sony camera.

Are we missing a setting in the camera somewhere? Are we missing a setting in Premier Pro somewhere? We are significantly limited in our ability to send broadcasters out for more than a few days because we cannot get footage from them unless they upload it to satellite so we can pull it down off the bird. If they can’t export to tape, they can’t upload to the satellite. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are the DV tapes blank? Try recording a few minutes of black in camera to get some timecode on tape, then roll back into TC part of tape before attempting Export to Tape.
