Exporting to HDCAM
We recently finished editing a documentary film shot in both HDV 1080i60 and
DVCPro HD 1080p30 and then edited on a DVCPro HD 1080p sequence in Final Cut
Pro. We now need to move over to HDCAM tape and have gotten three conflicting pieces of advices on how to export the file: ProRes HQ, self contained quick time movie with the same settings as the sequence and Uncompressed 8bit 4:2:2. Can you help us understand these choices and outcomes? Since we’re going plenty of money for the transfer, we want to make sure our quality is as high as possible.Thanks!!

You deliver whatever the place doing the output asks for. That’s what you do. Personally, I’m in the camp of getting a self contained QT file of the sequence…and HOPE that given your sources that it is a ProRes setting, and not HDV. Then I’d take that file, and simply output to tape. That’s all there is to it.
It is simple, but you have to have the equipment and the knowhow…
