  • Exporting QT from Keynote won’t import into FCP

Posted by David Notowitz on November 30, 2005 at 9:41 pm

I’m converting a series of PPT files into Keynote 2.0.2, then exporting the Keynote files into QT. The QT files play fine on my screen, but when I import into FCP I get these errors:

“General Error” and then immediately following “Error: Out of Memory”

From Keynote I’m exporting “Self playing”. And I’m not exporting audio. there are 9 files. I was able to export the first two files and the last two files successfully, but the middle five lessons 3-7 are causing the trouble. Are there some features I might be using in these Keynote files that will cause this export to QT / import to FCP trouble?

    Any hints here?

Try opening the problem files in QTPro, then exporting them out with settings that match your sequence.

Tried that last week, and after your suggestion I tried it again, but it doesn’t solve the problem.

Could you be more specific? Will the problem files open in QTPro? If so, do they play properly? Can you open the exported file back up in QTPro, and does THAT file open/play properly?

If all of this works, but only in FCP do you have the problem, then I am at a loss. If a file opens/plays properly in QTPro, theoretically it should perform the same in FCP, seeing as how FCP is based on QT.

I’m at a loss as well.

Yes, the problem files open in QTPro and play properly.
Yes, the QT file I export plays back fine in QTPro.
    But FCP rejects them.
    Anybody? Apple? Help!

I had to export the Keynote files as individual Tiff images as opposed to QT, and that was my workaround. At least I solved the problem, but what a pain…
