exporting multi cam as active ‘thumbnail video grid’ ?

Give ths a try. Add a few cameras in the multi cam editor. Select all then copy/paste to a primary storyline, Now you’ll need to add a scale to each & position similar to the multi cam viewer. You can them export these as a QuickTime file & make your choice. I would probably add a timecode generator to the multi cam editor so you have a reference timecode to go off too 🙂

Not sure this will work, give it a go & report back.

Do you mean to resize and position each of the clips independently? My goal is to find a fast way to do this, as if I take the time to resize / position 30 clips it will probably take more time then if I had just watched them independently..

I’m not sure If I got what you’re saying.. Correct me if you’re not saying to resize each individually?

Just tested it myself, so here are the steps.

Select the first 9 camera angles and choose new multicam clip. Once the multicam clip is created, double click on it in the event, which should open the angle editor.

Add an additional angle and drop in a timecode generator. It should look something my image below.

Then select all (Command+A) and paste them in a new project (or timeline if you wish).

Once you’ve done that, select each clip and scale it down like a picture in picture using either the transform tool, or scale in the inspector.

Your end result should look something like this.

Export and your done 🙂

The reason I’d add the timecode generator is so you have a reference to go off should you need to go to a specific time in the angle editor.

Oh btw, I’ve generated these PNP effects in motion which then generate them in my FCPX Effects bin. Do this once and you never have to worry about it again :-))))

Any reason you don’t want to point a camcorder at the LCD and just record a shot of the entire angle editor array in real time?

Seems simplest to me.

Yeah, lovin’ the built-in screen recording in QT X. Just wish JKL and I/O still worked!

Thoreau: quick, unfortunately, isn’t always an option when doing complex things, especially if your system is having issues with playing 4 tracks at the same time. plus, Agreed with tony – add timecode filter.

I thought of that, but I wasn’t sure the effect of having the same machine trying to both generate the multi-cam display while simultaneously directing creating a live stream output to a capture space on the same device.

Seems to me like you might be asking for trouble.

But certainly worth a try.
