Exporting HDV Problems
Hi guys,
I’m trying to export a 20 second clip of HDV footage that I imported into Adobe Premiere Elements 4. I think I’ve exported the file 80 different ways in 15 different formats over the past few days and I can’t get it to come out looking like it should.
The framesize of the file is (I think) 1440×1080. When I export it using quicktime h264 codec (or anything else for that matter) at the 1440×1080 framesize with the default HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.33) pixel aspect ratio it comes out playing fine but it is squeezed horizontally. So to avoid the squeeze I tried exporting at 1920×1080 with square pixel aspect ratio. Then it comes out looking great but it lags a lot and won’t play smoothly. Sometimes freezing altogether
My computer is an HP Athlon x2 dual core processer 5600+ 2.80Ghz with 3gb ram system running Vista. I don’t think it should be lagging these files (correct me if I’m wrong!).Additional things I’ve tried are interpreting footage at different pixel ratios (ended up squeezed still), and I’ve tried exporting varios AVIs but no luck.
If the original file is 1440×1080 then why is it exporting squeezed when I use that setting? Please help! What should I do?

I’m just guessing here, as I don’t edit in HD yet…
You project frame size should match your source frame size, as it is.
I’m not up on HD aspect ratios, but Premiere should guess it properly. Assuming that you know the correct PAR, Interpret Footage to the correct ratio.I’m guessing all looks correct in the monitor window?
Try File/Export/Movie or exporting as an uncompressed AVI, if that works than maybe it’s an issue with the specification in the export codec that you are trying to use.

I deal with a lot of HDV720p footage, and the thing I’ve noticed when exporting out of premiere pro is I have to make sure it uses square pixels and change the field dominance to progressive. Also, instead of using h264 try just exporting a quick time file that uses the same codec as the compressor so something like the HDV1080p30 or 1080i60 depending if you shoot on a progressive camera or not.

I’ve found out some more stuff that helps you out. While reading my PPCS3 manual it seems like the only way you would be able to get an HDV file out is using an uncompressed avi at HD settings. See if that works.
