I’m just wondering what settings I should use to export for premiere. I’ve tried the AVI setting under quicktime conversion, but it distorts the image. Is there any other setting I could use?

    Thanks for any help.

what format /codec is your original footage ingested as?

    Hi,

It was originally ingested using the HDCAM EX 1 format. I then moved it to a normal DV timeline in order to crop the size from 16:9 to 4:3.

    Cheers.

and what is it you want to export to Premiere? the original (16:9) XDCAM EX source clips or the (4:3) DV downconvert?

The downconvert. The project’s for a company that makes training video software, but it’s all in 4:3. I shot in 16:9. They also want consistent titles, so they want those done in premiere. What’s weird is that the footage is in 720*480 format, but it’s squeezed and changes to 640*480 when it goes into premiere. Is this a premiere issue?

    Thanks.

how is it when you open your converted AVI file back into FCP? what does it report for its format properties in the clip info (cmd-9)?

what steps are you taking to create the avi exactly? am assuming:
    export > using quicktime conversion…
    w/ format >avi >> options >> video settings >> compression type > DV/DVCPRO – NTSC

When I import back into final cut pro, it says the settings are 640*480. The image is stretched wide in my timeline, which is set to 720*480. In the premiere timeline (which is also set to 720*480), it’s also listed as 640*480, but the image is squeezed in. This is confusing.

    I am using

    export > using quicktime conversion…
    w/ format >avi >> options >> video settings >> compression type > DV/DVCPRO – NTSC

In the final box, I’m selecting 4:3 for the aspect ratio. I suppose that this is the problem, since 640*480 is 4:3. Is there any way to export to 720×480? Or, is there any way to export MPEG-2 at 720*480?

    Thanks again.

The problem is that I have some telephone conversations shot at DV 720×480 that need to be inter cut with this EX 1 footage. It needs to be at the same aspect ratio in order to cut together.

I haven’t used PRemiere Pro since version 6.0, but it’s a Quicktime compatible app, is it not? Can’t you set up your project to edit the Apple DV Quicktime files directly?

If it’s as simple as this I’m going to be kicking myself for a while. Last time I remembered, Premiere couldn’t really handle quicktime files. But that was 1.0. I’ll ask around on their forum, and try it out tomorrow at work.

    Thanks.

I believe Premiere is avi based, but it can take a Quicktime. It will just have to render it to play in realtime.
