You’re right. It took quicktime files without any problem. I don’t know where I got it into my head that it couldn’t take quicktime files. Thanks for your help.

One thing that has always bugged me though is that when I export a file at 720*480, when I open it in quicktime it’s stretched all out of proportion. It’s fine when I put it back onto Final Cut though. It seems I have to export at 640*480 to get a normal picture for quicktime. Why is this? Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks for any help.

You are not doing anything wrong. The newest versions of Quicktime Pro can be set to display movies with non-square pixels in different ways. If you export 720×480, try displaying the “Movie Properties”, highlight the name of the movie and go to the Presentation tab. There you will find “Conform aperture to…” and select “Production.” This should display the movie correctly.

However, if you want to be sure that the movie will display correctly on any computer, it may be best to export as 640×480 with square pixels. It’s all about the square and non-square pixels and how they appear on different displays. Computer displays use square pixels. TVs use non-square pixels. You’ll find many explanations on the Creative Cow and elsewhere.
