exporting FCP to QT file and it STOPS
Posted by Luis Ortiz on October 19, 2008 at 5:33 pmhi, this has never happened till now but I’ve been exporting my 30min short film from FCP timeline to a QT file with the correct codec (960×720 DVCPro 720x60p) and it has exported the whole movie with no problem. but yesterday, for some reason, when I decided to export the whole movie, it exports the project at the 12 minute mark…and it stops. I haven’t changed any preference at all…what could be the problem.

October 19, 2008 at 6:30 pmPerhaps a stupid question, but… did you leave an out mark in the timeline?

October 19, 2008 at 6:55 pmI tried both. One without In and Out marks and another time with In and Out Marks. Same result. It appears that the export is shortening the length of the movie on its own. When I tried to export 30 min worth, I only got a 12 min 20 sec. QT. When I placed In and out marks for a 11 min. movie, it produced a 4 min QT.
I’m going to try to trash the preferences to see if this resolves my issue.

October 19, 2008 at 7:53 pmI trashed the preferences and it didn’t resolve my issue. My 30 minute movie is still being exported as a 12 min. 20 sec QT. I exported it as a DVCRPROHD p60 format.

October 19, 2008 at 8:04 pmIs your hard drive formated properly as Mac Extended? They come from the factory formated as FAT32, with a 2 or 4Gb file size limitation.

October 19, 2008 at 8:14 pmIt’s formatted correctly. A few days ago I was able to export this same movie with no issues. I had to go back into the project to make a correction and now, the export is not working correctly.

October 19, 2008 at 9:00 pmAnd does it work if you do File > Export using Compressor? (in Compressor you can choose the same settings that you used with export to Quicktime, so you can get to the same result)
If it works it would at least solve your current problem and it may be a workaround in the future.Jaap

October 19, 2008 at 10:32 pmIt worked with Compressor. Thanks. I tested other projects and found that the issue is with my “File>Export>Quicktime” option. Exporting DVCProHD p60 through Compressor and conversion works fine. My next step is to test this on another FCP system. I suspect I might have to reinstall FCP to get the “File>Export>Quicktime” option to work.
Thanks for the help.
