  • Exporting DV50 from FCP to Avid

Looking for a recomendation on which Codec to use to transfer files between FCP and Avid Adrenaline. Original material is DVCPRO 50, captured in FCP via firewire. I would like to minimize file size as much as possible without degrading quality.

    Thanks

Avid Adrenaline can edit with DV50 natively…just export as DV50 and you wont lose any quality and this will result in the most manageable file size.

I am in the process of sending up FCP DV50 test movie file exports to a finishing editor who is working on the latest version of Avid Adrenalin. The budget basically requires that we do a tapeless finishing process for the show series.

The first media files I sent were standard “same as source” DV50 exports from the FCP DV50 timeline. The editor said her Avid import was corrupted (all white frames) and recommended that I try re-exporting using the Avid DV codec which can be set to DV50 in the options dialogue (I did a transcode using compressor). Now the editor is telling me she is having field dominance problems with the Avid codec version of the DV50 test files. I have been unable to configure the output options on either codec to make the Avid import happy.

It’s been a a few years since I have been in the Avid seat, but I can’t imagine it’s this complicated. What can I set with my export or what can I tell my finishing editor that might help get my DV50 movies to properly import into an Avid?

    Thanks in advance,
