Exporting Current Settings – Extra Compressed?
Please forgive if this isn’t the right place for this. I also posted this question on the Kona forum because I’m using a Kona. Again sorry if that is a faux pas, just trying to make sure enough people see my question.
My question:
I want to make a master of a 720p project that is not compressed any more than it already was when shot to tape. We’re not sure what camera we’ll use but let’s assume for the sake of this post we’ll be shooting with a Varicam, to tape. Then we digitize everything with the DVCPRO HD Codec, through firewire.
We edit in 720p, full resolution, etc.
At the end of our edit we want to take a final master to a post-house for color correction.
My question is: is it better/ easier to export a quicktime with ‘Current Settings’ and take an uncompressed DVCPRO HD movie to the color correction house? Or to hook up the Panasonic deck and make a DVCPRO HD master tape, and take that?
Or to export an EDL and have the color correction house redigitize all the original tapes and rebuild the sequence.
In other words, does exporting a movie add compression?
Does making a tape add compression?
Looking for a way to make a master to take to color correction shop that is not compressed any more than it already was as I was editing it.
Thanks so much!
