I’m prepping a job that was cut on FCP for online on an Avid Nitris. The online editor assumed that I was cutting on an Avid and has asked me if I can export the bins instead of an EDL. Is there a way in FCP 6 to export bins and have them be compatible with Avid?

You can export your FCP bins as Batch Lists….then import them into Cinema Tools, and then Export them as Avid ALE files. Then in Avid, you can import the ALE file, which becomes a bin.

This will not give him your sequence. Only the bins, where he can recapture the raw footage.

If he wants a sequence, you are going to have do the EDL or, the much preferred option…convert your FCP sequence to an Avid sequence using Automatic Duck.

Thank you! Automatic Duck may be too costly of an option for this. Have you heard of the Sebinsky (probably misspelled it) Tool?

Sebsky Tools does not work correctly with current versions of FCP anymore and the author stopped supporting it a few years ago. You might want to check with local post houses to see if they have Automatic Duck… They might convert your sequence for a modest fee.

does the Automatic Duck free XML exporter recreate the sequence and bins or would I have to get the full version, because the producer are now saying to get the software?

If your doing the online at a post house, ask them if they have automatic duck. That way you just give them the project files and they’ll take care of it.

You have to get the full version.

There is an Automatic Duck forum on the Cow. Wes Plate, the creator of Automatic Duck is the moderator and can answer all questions about it.
