exporting AVI out of FCP
Posted by Christina Rule on May 20, 2009 at 12:48 amHello!
I have to deliver an AVI file and I was wondering the best way to do so. The File that is coming to me is coming from comp, they will be getting exr image seq. I usually have them deliver movs with a NONE codec. Should I have them deliver AVI to me?I guess this was a 2 part question…
If they do deliver MOV to me what is the best way to convert them to AVI?
Thank you in advance!Megan West replied 16 years, 10 months ago 4 Members · 10 Replies -

May 20, 2009 at 2:14 amAVI is simply a wrapper that can be used to wrap any codec, just like QT. You need to find out exactly what it is that they need.
No, don’t have anyone deliver you an AVI if you need to do further editing in FCP.

All that they said was just Avi format. 30fps…I noticed when I was testing a few exports out of FC that I had the option of Cinepak,BMP,NONE and a few others… I know Cinepak has lower video quality but what about the others? Any recommendations ? I would like to keep Best quality possible -

MPEG Streamclip can create AVIs using many more compressors including QT compressors and embed them in the wrapper. But whoever opens them must have QT loaded on the machine.

May 20, 2009 at 3:30 pmHey Rich,
If I know that the clip will not be that long would you suggest using None? Or still Stream clip? -

May 20, 2009 at 3:59 pmCompressor can create AVIs as well, in dv, dv50, BMP, None or Cinepak.
