  • Exporting Apple Prores from Premierre Pro CS5 on a PC

After 18 months working in video, I am, for the first time, required to provide DVDs!
The authoring and duplication companies are staffed by, no surprise, Mac-based FC people who just don’t “get” PPro so they’re asking for my video as .mov Apple Prores 422 HQ. PPro does not present that option in the export window and Google searching has not come up with a codec I can install.

Reading the other threads, I realise that, on a Mac, you can install FC to get the Prores codec but that’s not an option for PC (nor for me – I’m on a tight budget and there MUST be a workaround / solution).

Does anyone have any suggestion as to what I can do either to install the codec into Premiere or an affordable workaround?
    I’m on PC Win7 64, using PPro CS5.

    thank you for your attention.

Well…you could export an uncompressed QuickTime file (or Animation or whatever) and take it to an FCP owner and have them convert it…

Or…assuming you have a HDSDI I/O card installed, you could rent an AJA KiPro outboard unit and output to it…and it will record a ProRes file.

    Or…you can buy a Mac/FCS.

ProRes encode capability is limited to FCP owners and therefore…not available on Windows. Period.

I’m not sure why the DVD facility needs this type of file… Are they doing the authoring? Uncompressed would be as good and if it’s a massive file they want, that will certainly be massive…

As far as Mac users not being aware of what the NLE world can do outside of FCP…I don’t think they’re all that way, though when you run into a shop like that, it can be challenging.
