exporting after effects files to avid
Artist exports an after effects file to be used on avid newscutter adrenaline. The video leaves AE fine but distorts in avid. EXAMPLE: when using circular shaped photoshop or illustrator files in after effects, they become almost egg shaped when they are opened in avid. File is being exported from AE as an avi file. Any suggestions on how to fix? Thanks.

Make sure you are rendering with correct pixel aspect ratio and selecting the right (square or non square) in Avid when importing. Why are you not rendering directly to an Avid codec from After Effects?

Bob (the one who originated this thread) and I work together. This is what we found out:
– I was rendering with the correct pixel aspect ratio
– He was importing with the right pixel aspect ratio
– I was not using an Avid codec, downloaded them, but they did not solve the problem. However, I will still use them.
– I was using the “File – Interpret Footage – Pixel Aspect Ratio – D1/DV NTSC (0.9)” for all of my files (photoshop and illustrator – which were square pixels). Now, I do not interpret my files and leave them in their square pixel aspect ratio.
– I now use the “View – View Options – Window – Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction”. This allows me to see exactly what I am rendering for Bob.
– We now have circles!!!!So, in short, the solution was not to interpret my files, just leave them as square pixels – and, to change the view options to see the pixel aspect ratio correction.
