  • Exporting a 29.97 QT movie from a 23.98 Timeline

    Hello,

Just wondering if this is even possible. I have a 17 minute program on a 23.98 timeline that I would like to export as a 29.97 QuickTime.

In the Export>QuickTime Movie window, I changed the setting from “Current” (1080psf 23.98 DVCPro HD) to 1080i 29.97 DVCPro HD. Everything seemed to go smoothly, but when I brought the exported QT movie into a 29.97 timeline, I had a clip that was only 13 minutes long instead of 17 minutes. The speed was right, it hadn’t been sped up at all. The export had just stopped 13 minutes into the process. But I got thinking and did some math and discovered that 13 minutes is about 80% of 17 minutes. 23.98 is about 80% of 29.97.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Brent

When I had to do this – from a 16×9 / 23.98 FPS DVCPRO 50 timeline to a DV/ QT export at 29.97 I would just create another sequence with “DV at 29.97 FPS” settings and nest my final edit into that sequence. It would render out fine and would nicely letterbox the 16×9 into the 4:3 DV output. This would allow me to make a DV copy at 29.97 FPS.

but correct 3:2 pulldown doesn’t get added via this method.

If you need to add 3:2 as a render to convert 23.98fps to 29.97fps, use can use my G Film Converter plugin in Standards Conversion: https://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/GFilmConvert.htm
