  • Exporting a 1290×1080 still

Posted by Lori Savitch on May 11, 2011 at 7:14 pm

I’m trying to export screen shots from some video I shot (1280 x 1080 (1.5) DVCProHD) using PPr cs5. Following the protocol, the exported JPEGS are “shmooshed” ala 4.3. I tried importing the “shmooshed” JPEG to Encore and changing it there, but no luck.

Is there any setting I can change to get a JPEG screen shot with the same aspect ratio as the source video? If not — and if the solution is to use Photoshop – please tell me how, as I’m not very skilled with Photoshop.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi Lori,

Import still into Photoshop and use Image > Image Size to resize to 1920×1080, with “constrain” box UNchecked. This will give you an image that looks correct at 1920×1080 using 1.0 square pixel aspect ratio.

I have to do this all the time with HDV grabs, which are 1440×1080 (1.333) and it works great.

For grabs from interlaced video, you might need to use Filter > Deinterlace if there is motion artifacting. If so, do this before the resize.

Crop your timeline down to that one frame and export a Targa sequence.

Thank you Scott. I’ll try that too.
