  • Exporting 16 x 9 HD Sequence to DVD Pro 2

Posted by Brad Froman on August 18, 2006 at 7:57 pm

This is my first time editing DVCPRO HD in my FCP 4.5. I want to burn a DVD of the finished sequence to show to the client. My problem is, everytime I export the as Quicktime, the end result in DVD Pro 2 is a 4 x 3 stretched image of the sequence. I adjust current settings DVDPRO HD 720p24…and CUSTOM settings to various frame sizes, various compressor settings. Even when I export as QUICKTIME CONVERSION and try different aspect ratios, etc. everytime I import the file into DVD PRO iT is ALWAYS stretched out to 4 x 3. Any recommendations? I’m sure there is a way.

In DVD SP, when you just click on the sequence somewhere…not the clip in the sequence (need to be using advanced settings here) on the right you will see a drop down menu that might say 4:3. In there is 16:9 letterboxed as an option. Select that and you are good to go.

The encoding settings are set for 16 x 9. The information displayed for the assets shows it as a 16 x 9 file. Yet the image is stretched in teh viewer to fill the 4 x 3 frame. You suggested I click on the sequence and it would display an option for “16 x 9 Letterbox” but nothing like that appears as an option. I have DVD Studio Pro 2, so I’m not sure it you are thinking of a newer version or not…and if that is the difference.

Should the viewer display show the sequence with letterboxed 16 x 9 when settings are finally correct? Thanks so much for your help.

Oh…I am using DVD SP 4. Didn’t notice the number in the Subject line. Sorry.

Actually, I did resolve the issue. There is a window that provides an option for 16 x 9 letterbox that has something to do with the VIEWER setting. I don’t recall how I got that window to come up…I’ve been trying to do it again, but to no avail. However, I did manage to burn one DVD and it came out with 16 x 9. So, thanks for the help!
