Export to H.264 – Jittery footage – Quicktime?
Greetings,
I have a HPX 500 camera using P2 cards. We have Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard. We use Dual Adapter for our input of our P2 footage. Recently we have run into a very frustrating problem. We just got done editing our footage and everything looked perfect and we were happy. Then we put the videos through compressor so that we could create a h.264 version for the client to look at it. When we viewed the video it looked very jittery and looked like it was doubling up on frames in some spots or like there were hits in the video. We also tried .mov, mpeg4 and .wmv and the same result. We have since then tried everything possible to trouble shoot and we have no idea what to do. The raw footage looks fantastic on a CRT monitor but on export we are still running into the same problems (jittery video – ect.) We have shot some extra footage as tests in different situations and we still are getting the same result. On the HPX 500 the footage looks good.Is it a quicktime problem? We’ve tried exporting via FCP as well and the same results.
Any ideas on what you think we could try? Please help this is horrible and very time sensitive, we have shoots coming up and I don’t feel confident at all in anything right now.
Also, this is happening on different MacBook Pros.

Footage was shot in 1080i60
29.97 fps
Compressor DVCPRO HD 1080i60Sequence settings:
Fame Size 1280 x 1080
Aspect Ratio – HD (1280×1080) (16.9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio – HD (1280ix1080)
Field Dominance – Upper (Odd) – We changed this from Lower (Even) because it gave us the best result so far.
Editing timebase – 29.97QT Video Settings:
Compressor: DVCPRO HD 1080i60

You are rendering to interlaced footage for display on a progressive computer screen, This can lead to many surprises.
Try the “YouTube HQ 16:9” setting in Compressor, that may just fix the problem.

1280×1080? Not familiar with that one. I’m familiar with 1920×1080, 1440×1080, 1280×720 but not what you listed. Could that be your issue as well?

DVCPro HD 60i is compressed at 1280×1080.
