What precisely were your steps and what precisely were your footage and sequence settings before trying to export to ProRes?

January 30, 2011 at 9:11 pmits h264 footage shot on the 7d. I stupidly didn;t convert the files when editing. i know there not good files to work with. but is that the reason for the jaunty export ?

Absolutely!!! Whatever jauntiness there may be is undoubtedly caused by editing the Canon material in it’s native form. Once you transcode your material, you’ll quickly realize that editing ProRes is a real pleasure.
Admittedly, FCP should not let any editing proceed with such non-editable video formats, but the problem is that we are being bombarded with new formats at a rate that is virtually impossible to keep up with. FCP is very old software at this point, and rather than try to fix the current version so it will do everything, it appears Apple is working on a major rewrite, which frankly seems like a better idea to me.
