Export Still from FCPHD – must be a better way!
Posted by Rory Hinds on May 8, 2005 at 11:48 amHi there
I constaintly need to export still imaged from FCPHD where I have some footage I’ve shot and need to supply the client still images to use.
At present I can’t see to find any automatic process to do this and it takes for ever to Export using QuickTime Conversion, rename the file and save…. they doesn’t even seem to be a keyboard short cut for Export! Is there any way I can go through some footage, mark my stills using markers and then have FCPHD export the marked frames as stills in a batch?
This would be super handy.
Any feedback will be helpful.
Thanks

I’ve never heard of an edit system with such a feature.
By the time you went to the trouble to “mark” the exact frame you wanted, you could just go ahead and EXPORT it right then (you could build a quick “macro” that would be a shortcut.)Once you do the first one, the “use most recent” function comes into play, so its easy to make several exports in the same sitting.
As far as re-naming them, you’d have to do this eventually anyway, or just add a number to the front or end of the default name which is all FCP would do if it COULD automatically perform the function you described.

May 8, 2005 at 7:14 pmWhen you mark a clip, then you can select the markers by twirling down the arrow next to the clip name in the browser window, so:
1) Choose a clip, put in markers where you want to export
2) open the export queue window (window -> export queue)
3) drag the markers into the queue window
4) select the batch folder in the queue window, and change the settings to your specs.
5) export -

OK, I’ll bite. How do you “drag the markers” into the queue window”?
I can’t do anything to a marker (other than change its position ON the line or delete it.)

May 9, 2005 at 1:33 pmGo to the browser where that clip resides, open the triangle next to that clip. Select the markers and drag them to the export queue window. Iguess it’s time to read the freak’in manual again. I’ve never even seen this window before. Rory who’s everything in London. Are you coming to Canada anytime soon?

May 9, 2005 at 1:50 pmHey Guys
Thanks for all the feedback. It looks like its the magic button I was after – will give it ago.
Hi Peter, I’m well, Canada plans are coming on nicely. Our visa’s finally came through and I have until November to active them. Still dreaming of living and working somewhere with natural beauty, London’s a dump and my life is being sucked away 🙂
Take care

May 9, 2005 at 6:14 pmNever mind I figured it out. yOu have to make the marked clip a subclip to get the arrow. Cake, and this works great!
