  • Export QT file from FCP for use in AVID

Posted by Gary Degennaro on October 13, 2009 at 3:25 am

    Hello

I have a 2 minute and 40 seconds of movie made on FCP 6.0 that I need to output to a beta tape. My friend has a beta machine but he is using AVID.

It is 720×480 29.97fps. NTSC. 4:3… edited on FCP.

What are the export settings I should use on FCP to make a QT file where he can load it into AVID?

This will be used as a cable TV spot.

    Thanks

Easiest would be to install the Avid codec on the FCP side, and export in Avid codec as NTSC SD 1:1x MXF. That will fast import in MC.
You can download the codec for free: https://www.avid.com/codec.

Thanks Job…I downloaded the Avid codecs.

What do you recommend for my audio settings?

The choices I have are the following:

Linear PCM, AAC, AMR Narrowband, Apple Lossless, IMA 4:1, MPEG 4 Low Delay AAC, Qualcom Purevoice, iLBC.

Linear PCM. All the others will be compressed. No need for compression.
Bear in mind that you will then be mixing down your sound. If you need to export separate tracks, you need to either send OMF or do track-by-track exports.

    Job,

Thanks a million. The download of the AVID codec did the trick. Easy and fast. Thanks again.
