Which version of Premiere? Might be time for an upgrade?

It’s Premiere Pro CS4. I bought it specifically to edit HDV.

I may have misunderstood, I thought you weren’t even seeing an HDV preset. It may be that your camera is set to downconvert, so the PC sees it as a DV camera rather than HDV.

By default, new HDV cameras from Sony and Canon (in my experience) have the 1394 output set to DV, so HDV is output as DV. Look in the camera menu for “i.Link convert” or “DV convert” and set to OFF.

Power off the camera, disconnect Firewire cable, close Premiere. Connect Firewire, power on camera (VTR mode) and wait for PC to “see” the camera properly as an HDV device. After that, you can then start Premiere and choose the HDV preset and it should work.

Thanks for your reply Jeff. You understood correctly, the project settings don’t offer the HDV preset for capture format.

I captured the tapes off a Sony HDV player. I’ll have to hire it again and see if it’s the down convert issue you mentioned. It seems strange CS4 only shows the HDV capture format option when there is a HDV device plugged in though?
