Export For Web
Hey guys. I’m sure this question has been asked before a million times but I couldn’t find a thread right off the bat.
I’m using FCP 5.1.4. I shot HD and want to export for video sharing sites. For reasons that would take too long to go into, I need to export the file two different file types.
One of the exports I used was a .mov file h264 medium quality 720×486. The clip is only 1:40 and that seems to come out ok, even though the file is fairly large at around 60 mb.
Question is this. What are the best file types to export at that I can
A. have the file size as small as possible?
B. have the quality look the best?
c. be compatible with the video sharing sites.That’s all Im looking to do with these files is upload them to sharing sites.
If possible, please list detailed settings within each setting. I know the options you choose tend to make a big difference.

So I believe I have a different version of compressor than you. I only have 2.3.1.
I believe I did everything you said in the video anyway, even though the options are a little different. My mac is fairly fast. 2 x 2.gg ghz dual core intel with 4 gb ram.
The file cam out looking pretty good and it was a nice small size. The only problem is the sequence was only about 1:40 and it probably took 1 1/2 hours to export. Is that normal? That seems a little excessive. Thanks!

If you enabled the settings in the Frame Controls pane and decided you wanted to deinterlace your video, that would dramatically increase your encode time. Did you do that?
