Adobe apps only do single pass On2 vp6 flv encoding. This results in greatly increased file sizes (and reduced visual quality!) at the same bitrate settings as a 2-pass encoder . Play around with the bitrate settings, try and go as low as you can without effecting the quality too much.

My 53 second Texture Packs promo video @ 386×216 30p is only 3.62MB . That was done with 112 kbps mp3 audio, and 420 kbps variable 2-pass encoding on the video.

In After Effects, with 96 kbps audio (less than the other one!), and 420 kbps video single pass encoding, the same video was almost 8 MB. It helps to have a separate application for encoding (such as sorenson squeeze)

the reason sorenson squeeze gets file sizes so small is not only 2 pass, but it can do a trick called interpolate half frame rate. It will encode video at half the framerate then encode a flag in flash to tell it to playback smooth with cpu added fake “tween” frames.

I tried the sorenson squeeze but it didn’t convert my alpha channel, I always get a black background.
First I tried to compress my flv-file to flv. Because it didn’t work, I wrote to the sorenson support. They told me to export the movie to mov with alpha channels, check the alphachannel checkbox in squeeze and then convert it to flv with alpha channels.
I did this but I still got a black background in my flv file.
So I did write again twice to the sorenson support but didn’t get an answer yet. So it seems that it didn’work with alpha channels?

any suggestions?
