Starting with DVCPROHD tape, (I have a Kona card) I would like to take the green screen shots and apply a chroma key (I have Boris BCC) so that the images are cleanly keyed over a blank (no) background and then export files – which will be used on a DV timeline at another facility – so that they have the images with the alpha channel to work with. Workflow process suggestions???

I’m not aware of any realtime codecs that support embedded alpha channels.

What I would do is create the alpha channels through keying and export ONLY the black/white mattes as new videos to a realtime playback codec, then use them as track mattes.

you should be able to export as a quicktime movie with the codec set to “animation” and set the color depth to “millions of colors+” (the + stands for alpha channel). you’ll have to render, but alphas are preserved in the format.
