Export as reference to encode on networked Windows PC.
Good morning all,
I am trying to wrap my brain around the export as reference file/ self-contained options when a networking situation is involved. I know that when you export as a reference file you are limited to the Mac you edited on or to any other computer that is attached to your network, because you still need access to the render and media files. But is this a Mac only option? I have a Windows PC-networked to my Mac-which has a couple of MPEG2 encoders on it that I would like to compare against Compressor. I know Compressor is a good program (when it works) but I want to do a test nonetheless; so I appreciate in advance no comments saying to just stay in Compressor.
I prefer to edit in FCP, but there are PC film tools that sometimes rival Mac’s; its just the Windows OS is not my cup of tea. If this is not possible with a reference file, then I will stick to a self-contained movie for my tests; and potential future workflow. My hope/ goal was that I could save disc space-and export time-by using a reference file only workflow.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
