  • Experience of Sonnet Fusion D800 Raid with Final Cut?

    Hi guys

I have never setup a Raid before so would like to be as careful as possible. Any suggestions about these 2 questions would be really appreciated:

    1. I’ve bought a Sonnet fusion d800 Raid to complement an 8 core MacPro, and was wondering if you have any quick tips about setting it up with Final Cut Studio 2? I noticed in a Creative Cow post someone mentioned it should be setup as “Advanced” but am not sure if that would be applicable to me. It was the mention of “Advanced” that got me a little concerned that if I don’t get the setup correct from the start, I might screw it up completely!

    2. I intend to use the Raid 5 in connection with Final Cut Studio – am I safe to assume that once the Raid is set-up it will show as a single hard drive on my desktop? If that’s the case, I suppose I would choose that ‘single hard drive’ as my Scratch Disk?

Much thanks in advance for any thoughts you can offer.

You should call Sonnet and ask tech support for config options that will give you max performance for your workflow and hardware, as setting up properly from the outset is critical.

And yes, all raids appear as a single drIve and behave as a single drive.

The raid should come preformatted to Raid5. After installing the hardware, you should have to install the Sonnet driver pack and then be up and running. There’s a very clear set of instructions that come with the array. If not, it’s all online from Sonnet.
