Does anyone have experience of Panasonic FS-100 160 firestore?

I have a HDX900 camcorder. If I use a Firestore, does the signal always has to come out Dvc pro HD or is it possible to record in Dvc pro 50 or 25 on the firestore when I use my HDX900?

Does the Firestore start to record when I push the camcorders rec button or do I have to start it on the Firestore itself?

Is it possible to supply the Firestore with power from the camcorder or is it only working with batteries?

HDX900 only outputs 720 or 1080 DVCPRO 100. FireStore can record in Native mode, Quicktime Native or P2 Native. FS-100 will not record DVCPRO 50 or 25 from HDX900.

Camera trigger will start/stop FS-100. FS-100 can power from camera via D-Tap or Hirose DC output.

    Hi,

I have been reading an earlier thread “Firestore with HDX900” from march 2008. I that thread Mark D’Agostino writes
That “the firestore is definitely NOT for run and gun/docummentary situations” and “ We have lost shots on the firestore because it didn’t roll when we thought it did and the tapes saved us.”

Why didn’t the firestore roll? Was it because of connection problems with the firewire cabel?

Later in the thread Jeffs advice is to get a double down angle Firewire cable. Have this cabel done the connection more reliable? Is the occasions when the firestore dont roll less frequently?

    Goran,

To control start/stop for the FS100 from the camera go into the system settings menu, option mode, 1394 control, select “both”.

    Hi Goran,
I took Jeff’s advice and purchased the cable, (and a backup). That did the trick, (thanks again Jeff). The connection is extremely reliable and we have not had ANY issues with the firestore not “rolling” since. We do still cover both ends with gaffer tape and always will. The link to the site for the cable is: https://www.angledcables.com/firewire-angled-6-to-angled.html . I’m still a bit nervous using the firestore on fast action handheld stuff and do always record to tape for safety and archive.
