Exchanging footage between Avid MC and FinalCutPro
Hi,
I have received several Quicktime Movies that have been captured on an Avid Mediacomposer in Meridian Compressed 2:1 resolution. The clips are delivered as Quicktime Files with the Meridian compressed codec to be used in a project in Final Cut pro 6.
I regularly get the problem that final cut displays the clips way “flatter” (lower white and higher black values) than the original material looks like on Avid.
The Clips were captured on a Windows Machine and I don’t know where the problem is. I am working in a DV-PAL Sequence and wonder if the cross-plattform exchange, the 601/RGB Colorrange or the DV-Codec is the problem and how I can fix that because when importing to FCP I can’t tweak any settings considering the color range of the clip, at least none I could find. And also on exporting in Avid I can only set the colorlevels 601/RGB which doesn’t make any difference to my results in final Cut.
I had similar problems before when encoding AVID QT Files for DVD Studio Pro and I also lost contrast in the final MPEGs and the DVDs… the cross platform exchange and different monitor gamma seemed to be the problem but I never found a viable solution anywhere.
Does anyone have experience with working with the Meridan Codec on other editing systems and cross platform exchange between MAC and Windows?? Any hint on how to fix the color differences in my workflow would be great since I am really getting desperate on this??Thanks for any hints in advance,
Karim
