exchange FCP HD files with FCP 3 ?
Posted by Joshka on May 12, 2005 at 8:58 amhi there, is it possible to move a project file made in HD to FCP 3 and continue working on it and if yes how to go about it ?

May 12, 2005 at 11:36 amAs far as I know you can go from 4 to HD but not the other way. You can always make a duplicate of the project and try different approaches. I would try to export an EDL and try to bring that in to 3. I learned the hard way of taking home a project working on it in HD then back to the office still running 4.1. It wouldn’t open it. My advice make a duplicate before you try anything. I am sure there is a simple answer but why not just upgrade the other system to HD?

Nope, FCP is not backwards compatible. You can go from 3 to 4 but not the other way around.
You can open and edit with the raw media files in FCP 3, but you won’t be able to move your actual project files back there.
