HELP!! I am using Vegas 8a with the Vista Business OS successfully, except when I try to use Excalibur 6. I installed the demo from the jetdv web site and added it as an extension; the app docks and floats, but when I go to any of the tabs every option is grayed out on every screen for each option!! Do I need to just uninstall/reinstall Excalibur, or is it incompatible with Vista altogether? Would upgrading to Vegas 8b help? Please advise, and thank you in advance!

If the options are grayed out you can go to the About tab and I’m sure you’ll see they all read “Expired”. The initial version had an issue where it could expire immediately. I put a corrected version out Tuesday evening. Please download and install the newer version and it should start working again. If not, e-mail me and we’ll figure out what’s going on.

    Ed:

My e-mail bounced back from your account, so here is what I wrote you yesterday:

To follow up on the Excalibur app being grayed out that I posted on Creativecow.com:

I first uninstalled Excalibur 6 that I D/L’d the other day; updated Vegas to 8.0b; D/L’d Excalibur 6 (supposedly the new version that you U/L’d the other day after my problem) and installed it. Lo and behold, all of the buttons are functioning. The bad news, though, is that it crashed Vegas!

Not being a programmer I do not know what this attached error message means, nor the explanation code below; However, I know that you will be able to tell from this what is going on. This error occurred when I chose an audio preset effect on two highlighted, adjacent audio clips e.g., to sweeten 2 audio clips next to each other–it was the Vegas compressor set to the 2:1 starting at -18 db).

Vegas 8.0b otherwise appears to work as well as 8.0a in Vista Business(2G RAM and 1 internal 320G HD, 1 internal 500G HD and 2–500G external HDs), Intel Core2Duo 6600 memory speed @ 2.4GHz. Is the problem something with my PC, Vegas 8, or Excalibur? Is there a problem with Vista, perhaps?

I trust that you will be able to figure this out, and realize that not all apps work with all PCs, disappointed as I was in it not working and perhaps never working for me!

Thanks in advance, Ed, and I hope that you will be able to give me an answer well before this current demo expires. I prophylactically have uninstalled Excalibur 6 pending results of your researching my problems, and look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Rich, I was able to duplicate your issue. The GOOD news – it did NOT “crash Vegas” and was not cause to just uninstall Excalibur. The script DID cause an exception to happen but it would not adversely affect Vegas.

The effect itself was actually added to the track. However, it died when trying to assign the preset. In this particular case, it was because it had “:” in the preset name. If you had picked ANY preset without a “:” it would have worked fine. 🙂 (and that’s about 99% of them!).

I sent you an e-mail with a test version. Give that a try and see if it solves the problem for you. The fix will be rolled into the next release as well.

As for the e-mail, I don’t know why it would have bounced back. Worst case, you can always e-mail or PM me through my site.

Thanks for the e-mail and file, Ed; I will test it when I get home later. In the meantime, you mentioned that the effect was added to the track. Is there instead a way for Excalibur to add an effect to multiple, selected events? I want to select a bunch of audio events and apply the same effect(s) only to those I choose and NOT have it affect everything on the track. Thanks.

With audio, you add the effects to the TRACK unless you use the “non-realtime” method. Therefore, these audio effects get added to the track. However, you can have unlimited tracks so just move these events to a new track.

Video effects are different in that they can be applied to the events and still be realtime. The tool that adds video effects DOES add them to the selected events unless you choose the option to adde to the track instead.
