I am editing a bunch of shows using Excalibur 4 in version 6. My workflow is as follows: pull in tape 1 and 2 from camera 1, tape 1 and 2 from camera 2. Sync tape 1 from both cameras, sync tape 2 from camera 2 with the tail of tape 1 camera 1. Sync tape 2 camera 1 with tape 2 camera 2. (We change tapes at different times so as to have a cover shot for each camera.) Once all 4 clips are synced up, I group each track and then shift track 2 one frame and insert the markers for the Sync Wizard then run it. I would like to avoid the last step. Is there a way to get the PIP, etc without running the Sync Wizard?

In addition, I have a show completely edited and have found that I need to cut out a section. I would like to avoid rendering it out and cutting it out and re-rendering. Is there a way to cut the section out before running the Multi-Cam Wizard? I have not experimented with this as yet.

    Regards,
    Jerry

I delete sections from a multicam edit by setting the region to be deleted, right clicking on select entire region and deleting. Then I use the post edit ripple to adjust the tracks.

A question. Why do you move track 2 one frame before putting in the sync markers? I usually just leave the tracks alone after syncing them. Just wondering.

You can do PIP and multicam without running the sync wizard.

Go ahead and sync manually if you wish. DO number the tracks appropriately (i.e. “1” for video and audio of camera 1 and “2” for both video and audio of camera 2). Now, simply do not put the sync markers on the timeline but go ahead and run the Sync Wizard. It will create the PIP’s for you and set you up for the Tally system but will NOT try to sync your events.

I was unaware that I could have the PIP inserted w/o sunning the Sync Wizard. So after syncing the tracks i un-synced them by one frame to allow the wizard to line them up again. Silly, but it worked.

Yes, you can manually do PIPs but then Multi-Cam can’t undo those PIP’s automatically (depending on how you did them) and without running Sync you won’t get use of the Tally system. Therefore Sync MUST be run which will provide both the PIPs and the Tally system. However, Sync doesn’t have to “sync” – it can easily leave the clips alone by simply NOT placing the sync markers on the timeline. You DO need to number the tracks before running Sync just as if you were syncing in order for the Tally system and Multi-Cam to work properly.
