EX1. When shooting 1080P HQ it’s really shooting 24p over 60i right?
Posted by Pierre on October 10, 2009 at 2:29 amI shot some footage for a client about a year ago… just got a random call and the editor says the footage is showing up as 59.94. (the project is 23.98)
I remember shooting at 1080 24P HQ (which I do 99.9% of the time).
I think this is a matter of 24P over 60i ? I know sometimes (for some reason) in Avid or FCP the footage shows up in the bin as 59.94 (even when it was shot at 23.98). Can someone help clarify what might be going on?
thank you,

October 10, 2009 at 2:41 amThe camera shoot p24 and added the pull down so can be recorded in a i60 system.
In FC will show as i60.
Remove the pull down to get the real p24.

How can I delete my post?
I’ve mixed up my self with a question about a Sony HDRFX-1 in the FC Forum.
Sorry.
No pull-down in this scene.
If the file shows as i60, must be i60.
I haven’t heard of miss identification of EX-1 files by any application.

October 11, 2009 at 1:34 pmI have also found that EX 30p footage comes into FCP as 60i, which led me to believe that it was delivering 1080 progressive over the 60i video stream. Am I wrong about this or is something else going on?

October 11, 2009 at 1:52 pmOne way to double check this is also put the video into Compressor and see what it reports. I’ve seen P video show as I in FCP. I think it’s an FCP bug, only cosmetic as the video remains P and no pulldown is added.

October 11, 2009 at 1:59 pmNo here.
FC identify properly p25 and i50.
When you are in p30, the EX-1 stream (HD/SD-SDI) is “psf” so you would capture as i60, then interpret as p30. The files recorded in the SxS card should be p30.
This, unless is different 25/50 with 30/60 time bases.

Bug depends on version of FCP and it may be limited to NTSC frame rates.

BTW firmware update impacted how 24p out of HD-SDI is handled although I forgot the details. -

October 12, 2009 at 5:50 pmThe EX1 Firmware upgrade gives you the ability to shoot in 24p native and set the SDI output as native 24p or 60i with pulldown. This is for people outputting to monitors that cannot handle 1080p. The EX3 came from the factory with this ability.
