EX1 client friendly export from Fincal Cut Pro
I shoot on an EX1 and Edit on Final Cut Pro. When I export my quicktime file, my client can’t view it on their laptop. The video plays but no audio, even with the supposed latest quicktime player. A quick test exporting using quicktime conversion on ‘current’ settings appears to play on my pc fine, however, I’m not sure the footage is optimal for editing at that point. They (the clients) want to send the unedited footage to media outlets so that the different media partners, E! etc can edit. What is the most versatile format so that everyone will have high quality editable HD footage. I would guess if they have the latest FCP both formats will work. However, if they are editing on Adobe or Avid, the format needs to be compatible there too?

Assuming you are capturing as ProRes. Adobe will be compatible with this format or native EX1 files as well. Adobe’s FCP importer will help make it easier too.
Avid will likely be more difficult. You could download the Avid codecs for free and export them as DNXHD. Probably your best bet is to ask the client what they want because there is no universal media that will allow anyone to edit on any system.

Hi Kel,
You need FC (6.0.2 or later to be able to play the EX-1 files in a Mac.
If you don’t have FC, you can use the plugin of Calibrated Software.
If you want your EX-1 files being edited in a PC, you need to re-wrap them as MFX.
In https://www.convergentdesign.com there is free application to the re-wrapping.

You’ll need ask your client what format works best for them. If they don’t know, you’ll have to find out what they use to edit it with, and then find out what formats that software can accept.
IOW, unless your client is reading this board, nobody here can tell you what they want. But your client should know. Doesn’t mean they will know, but they should.
