just bougt the ex1 xdcam – and have a few questions:

If my intent is to work in ProRes, how do I best do this?

Im a bit confused as to the settiings….

I have set both the sequence and capture presets to ProRes HQ…….

Is the capture preset even relevant now? As Im just downloading from the card………

Render to ProRes in timeline? Mediamanager? Compressor? Before or after editing?

Im so confused….. once there was a time when the perfect cut was what I needed…now:
Well Im glad you guys at the cow exist! 🙂

You might want to head over to the Sony CineAlta forum. Lots of good info there. I’d also recommend the DVD training set from Vortex Media “Mastering the EX-1.”
You’re right, capture settings are no longer relevant. You could capture with ProRes using a capture card, but then you lose one of the biggest advantages of the EX tapeless workflow. The prevailing wisdom is to edit in native XDCAM, but set your sequence to render using the ProRes codec. The eliminates the constant conforming time as you edit.
