Had a 10bit HD lay off last night. 1080i 59.94 to F500 deck. Laid black on deck from 58:25:00… did an assemble edit @ 58.34.00 with matching timecode on the sequence… Non-Drop on both. Played out 16 minute sequence, looked beautiful… went back to check tape and EVERYTHING was 1 frame late! Had to relay everything… inserted one frame early on tape… so 59:34:00 on the sequence became 59:33:29 on tape… Everything matched up. Ran out three more copies all were off 1 frame (or rather on… but laid in one frame early). I;ve done identical lay offs in fcp4.5with BMD 4.8, os 10.3.8 and QT 6.5.2 and all was well… but not anymore… can this be replicated? or fixed?

    Thanks,
    Juan

Change your offset in the Device Control Settings. If it’s consistent then you can do that and you’ll be fine.

Regarding setting the offset in the preferences:
I don’t think it’s that easy, we have the same trouble with dBeta, it wouldn’t be a problem if it was consistent, then we could just adjust the offset, but sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes the in point is spot on but somewhere in the first 30″ (by the end of the bars) everything is either one frame early or one frame late, it’s always one frame off (when it’s off!) no matter what the duration of the sequence too which is odd.

PS does anyone else have trouble with Final Cut Pro resetting your preferences every couple of days, all our systems do it and it’s driving me nuts!!

I’ve had a great deal of problems when I have plugins installed. Whenever I have no plugins (except for the BMD ones) then everything runs well.

Plugin makers will come around and release versions that work better with FCP5. Until then, I’d only load them on an “as-needed” basis only.
