My mother-in-law has gotten some children’s VHS tapes from the elementary school where she works, and said that they wanted them transferred to DVD since all their VCR’s are getting replaced with DVD players. I have no problem doing this, but she then asked if she could also get a copy of the DVD’s when I make them.

Herein lies the ethical dilemma: I know that it would be wrong to make the extra copies; however, some of the tapes are of old shows that you can not purchase any longer (like the old Bearenstain Bears shows). I have a funny feeling inside about making these “extra” copies, but I would like the advice of a more experienced crowd.

Ahhh, live a little. I’m sure the producers of the Berenstein Bears are not going to complain if your mother gets a free copy. Just don’t advertise it in online forums…

LOL! I’m thinking of getting the 5-pack special for only $44.99.

People who would pirate videos of “Veggie Tales” to show in Sunday School obviously are not clear on the concept of what the programs are showing…:-)

This isn’t legal/ethical advice. This is don’t-waste-your-time advice.

If the DVDs cost $19.99 each, brand new, it’s really worth your time to just buy them. Not sure how many you have, and not sure the running time, but 2-hour tapes will take 2 hours to transfer! Potentially, you’re looking at a very long project — a library of children’s videos.
