Ethernet sans server setup
Hi I’ve been reading the various articles and posts about SANs networks and wanted to run by what I was thinking for a setup based on what I’ve read here:
In my network I have 2 mac computers which I want to connect to my media server via Ethernet.
A. For the most part there will only be one person on the network at a time accessing media. Based on that, would having a gigabit ethernet connection provided an adequate amount of bandwidth for using FCP? (I wont be digitizing directly to storage, just playback)
B. I was going to get either a dual NIC or two NICS , that way i can bypass getting a switch / router. (since I will only be having two computers connect to the server, is there any benefits/ need to have a switch or router?
C. I have read about link aggregation. For my setup, would you only recommend me doing that for the instances where two users are on at the same time accessing data? From my understanding it doesn’t give me more transfer speed, but only each user get the max bandwidth?
I would appreciate your thoughts and opinons on this before I implement this into my network.
thanks!
