  • Error when transferring .fcp files

When I transfer a .fcp file from one computer to another an odd error occurs: It claims to have found media, but there is no video or audio; plus the date has changed to Nov 3, 1904. Here is exactly what I am doing which causes the problem:

    a) On computer #1 I capture my footage, do some editing

    b) I copy capture files and *.fcp to a thumb drive and head to computer #2 which is a much more powerful computer — do some editing that requires the power; everything works fine … so I then …

    c) Bring the *.fcp file back to Computer #1 (which also has the captured footage); when I open *.fcp in Final Cut it shows the original capture footaged as available (i.e., no bar indicating it is off line), yet the video is only white, the audio also … just nothing.

    I have tried the following:

    d) Take the offending video off line then reconnect. Final cut pro cannot find it, even if I choose it manually it won’t do anything. Usually when you try to reconnect media it tells the file name it is looking for, but in this case it list NO file name! I’m not sure where to go.

Please note that this process has worked many times before. I am not sure what is up. The files on computer #2 don’t appear to be corrupted, and they DO NOT have the date Nov 3, 1904.

    Any ideas?
